OREGON CITY, OREGON –
Congratulations to the OCHS Student Council for earning the National Gold Council Award of Excellence for 9 years in a row!
For its exemplary record of leadership, service, and activities that improve the school and community, the Oregon City High School student council has been recognized as a 2026 National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC). The NASC program is supported by its parent organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
“The student council at Oregon City High School just pulled off something extraordinary,” said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. “Their student-driven change has earned them national recognition as a National Gold Council of Excellence, proving that when young people are given the chance to lead, they turn their vision into real-world impact.”
Leadership in Action
Principal Timmons praised the group’s commitment to building a cohesive school culture.
“The OCHS Student Council has done an exceptional job of growing student involvement throughout schoolwide events. I am especially proud of the work they have done in building a more inclusive environment with active participation and membership in the Student Council with students receiving support services.”
Student Council Advisor Tiffani Traver also highlighted the resilience of this year's student leaders. "When faced with some difficult changes, they chose to step up rather than give up," Travers noted. "They didn't let limited class time slow them down; instead, they stayed focused and made every minute count."
About the Award
To earn the National Gold Council of Excellence Award, a student council must meet a rigorous set of criteria. Beyond basic requirements—such as maintaining a written constitution, holding regular meetings, and following a democratic election process—councils must demonstrate:
Leadership Development: Providing training and growth opportunities for members.
Service: Organizing impactful projects for the school and local community.
Civic Engagement: Fostering student voice and democratic participation.
Inclusivity: Ensuring activities are accessible and representative of the entire student body.
This national recognition reflects the strong leadership within OCHS and the dedication of students to making a tangible difference in their community.
